When is my MOT test due?
To check if your vehicle has a valid MOT or when it’s due, use the MOT Due Date Checker by entering your registration number.
You can also find the expiry date on your current MOT certificate. You can get your MOT done at any time before it expires, but to keep the same renewal date for next year, you must take the test up to one month (minus a day) before it expires.
For example, if your MOT expires on 13th June, the earliest you can take the test and keep the same date is 14th May.

Do I need an MOT?
- You could be fined up to £1,000
- Your insurance may be invalid
- You can’t tax your vehicle
Do electric vehicles need an MOT?
Just like cars with petrol and diesel engines, electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles both still require a valid MOT certificate if they are 3 years old or more. The main difference is that electric vehicles do not require an emissions test, therefore, this part of the MOT test is excluded.
Can I drive if my MOT has expired?
Without a current MOT certificate, you will be unable to drive your vehicle lawfully or renew your road tax. The penalty for not having a valid MOT certificate is a fine of up to £1,000. However, if your car fails the test and is deemed ‘dangerous’, driving this vehicle could result in a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 points on your licence. For your car to be classed as dangerous following its MOT test, it either poses an immediate risk to road safety or has a serious impact on the environment due to its emissions.
What do I need to take to my MOT?
The only thing you need to bring with you is the vehicle being tested! Our tester can easily look up your vehicle on the DVSA database to check your current MOT details, no paperwork needed. You can book your MOT up to 1 month (minus a day) before it’s due and still keep the same expiry date.
That means you could get 13 months of MOT cover instead of 12! Book your MOT today for peace of mind and hassle free service.
